Recipe: Dutch Apple Pudding

Ingredients:
For the crust:
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cut into small cubes
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 cup ice water

For the filling:
- 4 large apples, preferably Goudreinet or any other tart variety, peeled, cored, and sliced
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- A pinch of nutmeg
- 1/4 cup lemon juice

For the topping:
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cut into small pieces
- 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon

Instructions:

1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9-inch pie dish with butter or cooking spray.

2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, and salt for the crust. Add the cold butter cubes and use a pastry cutter or your fingers to cut the butter into the flour mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs.

3. Gradually add the ice water to the flour-butter mixture, mixing with a fork, until the dough comes together. Avoid overmixing. Shape the dough into a ball and wrap it in plastic wrap. Refrigerate for 30 minutes.

4. In another bowl, combine the sliced apples, sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice for the filling. Toss well to coat the apples evenly.

5. On a lightly floured surface, roll out the chilled dough into a circle slightly larger than your pie dish. Carefully transfer the dough to the prepared dish, pressing it gently into the bottom and sides.

6. Pour the apple filling onto the crust, spreading it out evenly.

7. In a small bowl, combine the flour, sugar, butter pieces, and cinnamon for the topping. Using your fingers or a pastry cutter, blend the ingredients until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

8. Sprinkle the topping evenly over the apple filling.

9. Place the pie dish on a baking sheet to catch any drips. Bake in the preheated oven for 45-50 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the filling is bubbling.

10. Remove the Dutch Apple Pudding from the oven and let it cool for at least 20 minutes before serving. This allows the filling to set and the flavors to develop.

11. Serve slices of warm Dutch Apple Pudding with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream. Enjoy!
